A Johor PAS delegate has proposed that the palace appoints party president Abdul Hadi Awang as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V’s adviser.
Mohd Nazari Mokhtar said the new Agong was a blessing from Allah and was devout Muslim. As such, he deserves an adviser with similar traits.
“A person with Islamic character, a charitable person, who has strong faith, is sent by Allah to lead Malaysia.
“We all pray that His Majesty has an advisor whose character is similar to His Majesty,” he said while debating the president’s policy speech at PAS’ 63rd muktamar in Alor Setar, Kedah today.
Paraphrasing Abdul Hadi’s policy speech, Mohd Nazari said a political party not only wishes to capture Putrajaya, but seeks to advise the ruler as well.
“His Majesty wears the robe to the mosque, who do you think is best suited to be his adviser? An ulama is most suitable.
“As the president had said, we do not wish to go to Putrajaya as much as we wish to be His Majesty’s adviser.
“Who is the number one leader? His majesty. So the most suitable adviser is our president, the second ulama leader in the world,” he said as chants of takbir filled the hall.
Abdul Hadi, as one of the world’s leading ulama, also attracts public attention, Mohd Nasir noted.
When the second ulama leader speaks in Malay, he added, it is understood not only by those in the hall, but by the entire region.
“I would like to remind that every word uttered by the PAS president are the words of an ulama and his statements are analysed by every person who can understand Malay,” said the delegate.
Sultan Muhammad V ascended to the throne on April 24.
