KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia has launched the latest fifth-generation CR-V mid-sized sport utility vehicle (SUV) in four attractive variants and packed to the brim with features.
Prices (on-the-road with GST without insurance) starts with the entry-level 2.0 2WD variant at RM142,400 and is followed by the 1.5TC 2WD at RM155,700, RM161,600 for the 4WD variant and RM167,700 for the range-topping 1.5TC-P 2WD.
All variants come in five colours options of Obsidian Blue Pearl, Dark Olive Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic and Lunar Silver Metallic, while White Orchid Pearl will incur an additional RM400 to the purchase price.
In terms of dimensions, the CR-V has significantly grown over its predecessor, with a 2,660mm (+41mm) wheelbase and measuring 4,584mm-long (+55mm), 1,855mm-wide (+36mm) and 1,679mm-tall (+25mm).
At 1,520kg (kerb), the base CR-V is powered by a 2.0-litre (1,997cc) SOHC i-VTEC engine with 154PS at 6,500rpm and 189Nm of torque at 4,300rpm.
Power is managed by a continuously variable transmission before reaching the front 17-inch wheels (and rear) with 235/65 series tyres – allowing it to sprint from 0-100kph in 11.3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 193kph
As standard, the CR-V comes with an electronic power steering system that provides a turning radius of 5.9m while ride and handling is taken care of by front MacPherson struts and rear multi-link setup.
Standard fitment also includes LEDs for the automatic headlights, daytime running lights, front fog lights and rear tail lights as well as power adjustable and retractable exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals and a tailgate spoiler.
Inside, the cabin is accented with silver garnish, while the powered front seats (driver – eight-way with lumbar support, passenger – four-way) and rear bench are upholstered in fabric and leather combination.
Convenience and comfort comes from having an electric parking brake, keyless entry with push-start button, walk away auto lock, cruise control, paddle shifters, Econ button, full-colour LCD meter.
Also there’s a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, rear USB charger, auto dim rear view mirror, tonneau cover and one-touch rear folding seats, dual-zone climate controls, rear air vents and 552 litres (1,084 litres) of boot space.
For entertainment, an eight-speaker sound system with 7.0-inch Advance Display Audio system with multi-angle reverse camera is provided and comes with Apple Carplay and Android, USB and HDMI ports as well as hands-free telephone with voice recognition.
Safety features include six airbags, anti-lock braking system, brake assist, vehicle stability assist with agile handle assist, hill start assist, emergency stop signal, rear proximity sensors and Honda LaneWatch camera.
As for the 1.5TC 2WD and 4WD models, the 4WD variant costs an additional RM4,900, rides 10mm higher at 208mm, has four-wheel propulsion, and has a kerb weight of 1,595kg versus the 2WD at 1,543kg.
Compared to the base model, the main difference lies under the hood with a familiar 1.5-litre (1,498cc) turbocharged mill that’s been uprated to produce 193PS at 5,600rpm and 243NM of torque from 2,000 to 5,000rpm over the Civic’s 173PS at 5,500rpm and 220Nm of torque from 1,700 to 5,500rpm.
With a set of larger 18-inch wheels fitted with lower profile 235/60 series tyres, 0-100kph now takes 8.8 (4WD – 9.2) seconds and top speed is now 200kph.
In terms of additional kit, both 1.5TC 2WD and 4WD now get wood cabin accents, automatic wipers and front proximity sensors.
Moving to the range-topping 1.5TC-P 2WD weighing in at 1,549kg (kerb), the list of goodies now includes automatic highbeam, active cornering lights, programmable powered tailgate, Honda LaneWatch Camera and the Honda Sensing system.
The new safety system uses a collection of safety features that utilise cameras positioned around the vehicle and a radar system to help give the driver a complete view of the road and includes forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking system, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist system, road departure mitigation system, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow.
Last but not least, the Modulo accessories are also available with the Aero Package for the 2.0 2WD costing RM5,900 (including GST) and consists of front and rear bumpers, side running boards and an exhaust tip.
The Aero package for the 1.5 turbocharged variants costs RM5,700 and does not come with an exhaust tip.
Available for all variants is the Urban Package, costing RM1,790 and includes items such as door visors, illuminated side steps and a rear bumper protector, while the Utility package at RM1,165 throws in a cargo tray, cargo net, trunk organiser, door protector film and sun shades.
Furthermore, there are nine window tint options ranging from RM1,500 to RM3,000 as well as the CSE Connex vehicle tracking service costing RM2,960.
