HADI TAKING PAS FOR A RIDE? AFTER MACHO THREATS TO SPLIT WITH PKR, NOW PAS SAYS ‘FINAL’ DECISION ONLY IN ONE OR TWO WEEKS
PAS’ syura council will meet, as early as one week from the day the party passed a motion to cut ties with PKR, to decide on the matter.
“No date has been set yet, but the meeting will be held in one or two weeks’ time because we just finished our muktamar,” syura council secretary Nik Muhammad Zawawi Nik Salleh told Malaysiakini.
On Sunday, PAS unanimously passed a motion calling on the syura council to sever ties with PKR.
Although the syura council does not have executive powers, it is highly influential and is able to advise PAS’ central committee to ultimately decide on the matter.
The move, if approved, would likely put PAS and PKR – once strong allies – on a collision course during the forthcoming general election.
However, the Islamist party has expressed confidence that it is a better choice for the people than both BN and Pakatan Harapan.
PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said her party would wait for the syura council’s decision before deciding what to do next.
