If You Get Caught Smoking In Public Parks In Selangor, You Better Prepare Your Wallet

The Selangor government really wants you to stop smoking.

Beginning Friday (2 June), those who are caught smoking in public parks will face a hefty fine and maybe, a jail term.

Under the new Control of Tobacco Product (Amendment) Regulations 2017, offenders will be fined up to RM10,000 and spend a maximum of two years in jail.

Yikes!

However, despite taking effect on Friday, the new regulations will reportedly be enforced in stages, as gazetting a park as a non-smoking area is an entirely different process, Selangor Health director Datuk Dr Zailan Adnan told The Star Online.

The state government will take this opportunity to educate and inform the public, Dr. Zailan added.

'Oh, thank God I don't smoke. I vape!'. Well, hold on there, buddy; you're not spared.

The same regulation also applies to e-cigarettes and vapors, Dr. Zailan said.

Here's a list of all 13 parks that are now classified as non-smoking zones in Petaling Jaya:

• Taman Bandaran Kelana Jaya
• Taman Jaya
• Taman Tasik Komuniti Kelana Jaya
• Taman Aman
• Taman PJS 10
• Taman Rimba Riang
• Taman Tasik Ara Damansara
• Centre Spine (Bandar Sri Damansara)
• Urban Park 1, 2, 3 and 4 (Damansara Damai)
• Bukit Gasing

Oh and also, government premises, hospitals, shopping complexes and petrol stations are also smoke-free zones, so you can't light up there either.
